With Beauty Comes Pain

As this image depicts, our 20’ x 20’ main bedroom ceiling once featured the dark, heavy, orangey oak beam and planks that screamed 1990s. We knew a change was needed. We had the vision. We just had no idea what we were getting ourselves into…

Whitewashing seemed like a good choice to lighten the room and give the space an updated look.  And it was. However, for the record it was one of the hardest projects I’ve ever tackled in all my years of project tackling.

After many nights and weekends up on ladders painting, scraping and blending, followed by more painting, scraping and blending, everything hurt — especially shoulders and necks…

We don’t often think about ceilings when it comes to designing a room, but ceilings make a big statement!

Was the effort a pain in the neck? Yes. Was it worth? If you asked me on my upteenth trip up the ladder covered in congealed paint scrapings, I may have had a colorful response. But time heals and in hindsight, Yes!
