Three Easy Ways To Update a Tired Piece of Furniture

Hi there everyone!  Today’s post is all about the quick fix!  Maybe you have a piece of furniture in your bedroom or guest room or even your kiddo’s room and it’s looking a little worse for wear.  Well, fear not!  I have three ideas that will allow you to quickly update it and make it look completely different!  Interested?  Read on!

1. Change out or add hardware:  This one is a no-brainer!  It’s super fun (have you seen all the cool knobs and pulls out there?!?) and it’s affordable and fast.  Simply change out what it is existing or add something new.  Either way, it will spruce up that furniture piece in no time at all!  Be sure and check online, home improvement stores, discount stores, and hobby stores to see all that is available to you.  It’s like jewelry for your furniture!

2. Paint:  Simply by giving your tired-looking piece a simple coat or two of paint, you can completely revitalize its looks! This is a great way to use up some of that leftover paint sitting in your garage or basement.  If you don’t have leftover paint sitting in your garage or basement, (a condition that quite honestly, I can’t really relate to!), this would be a good time to check out the discount paint shelf at your local home improvement store.  They all have them, and they are simply colors that they have mixed that weren’t quite what the customer was looking for.  There is nothing wrong with the paint and it’s deeply discounted.  You can easily find a gallon for under $10 or a quart for about $2.50!  This option is a quick fix and all the patience you will need is to wait for the paint to dry!  In no time at all, you’ll be standing back and admiring how great your new creation looks!

3. Decals, Stencils, Contact Paper, Wallpaper:  Obviously, this one is all about the details!  First off, figure out where on the furniture piece you would like to add one of these.  Drawers are easy because they are small and flat and can be a great place to add detail or you could decide to go big and do the sides or top and paint the rest of the dresser out in a coordinating color.  Maybe you’ll decide to not even paint at all (whaaaaat?!) and simply add the pattern and be pleased with the update!  This too can be a very affordable option.  Be sure to check online for closeout sales on discontinued patterns if you really want to save.  Also, most discount stores now carry decals so be sure and check that option out if that’s the option you would like to try.

What’s great about these ideas is that they don’t take much time and they take very little money, so you don’t have a lot of pressure on you when you decide to take on that old piece sitting out in your garage.  Choose one of these options and you’ll soon as a showstopper of a piece!  Obviously, there are other options out there when it comes to redoing a piece of furniture so if your favorite isn’t listed here, please share it with us, we’d love to hear from you and see your furniture transformations!  I hope this helps inspire you to redo instead of replace that out-of-date piece of furniture you have sitting around!

Now, what will you do next to love where you live?
