Accessories: More Than Just Pretty Pillows…

Quick: What’s the purpose of accessories? Believe it or not, they do much more than make a space look pretty, although they certainly do that. For example, baskets or decorative containers can function as extra storage. Large pillows, throws, and rugs can add comfort and warmth. Candles, accent lights, and floor lamps not only help you to see better but they can also visually impact a space by making it feel cozy, warm, and intimate.

Multipurpose Home Accessories

  • Bringing an accent color to the space

  • Balancing out your other color choices

  • Making your space feel finished and “put together”

  • Personalizing your space, creating a special place you love to spend time in

I’ve found that accessorizing a space evolves over time. While you can redesign a room and accessorize it right away, often things that “speak to you” reveal themselves slowly and tend to show up gradually. A beautiful vase stored in the garage catches your eye when you’re spring cleaning and you realize how nice it would look in a place of respect. A forgotten painting tucked away in your closet deserves another opportunity to contribute to your home’s look and feel.

How and when you come across these items can be random, so leave yourself open to possibilities as you clean, sort, or just reminisce going through boxes in the overlooked corners of your home. Don’t be afraid to try items in different locations. Experiment. Spend time with new objects in place and notice how they make you feel.

Final Thoughts

I hope making these subtle changes brings you as much joy as it does for me. If you’re open to accessory options, you will be thrilled at how the right items come together to make your room feel colorful, balanced, finished, and personal. And when your room feels colorful, balanced, finished, and personal, you will feel right at home, physically and emotionally. Who knew those little pillows had so much power?

Now, what will you do next to love where you live?
